In the United States, there's a wonderful business that makes the most amazing cinnamon buns. We don't have this business in Canada, but you can rest assured that whenever I am travelling in the US, I make sure I find the business's bakery kiosk.
Nothing is like these ooey-gooey good buns! They are worth the price and the time it takes to find them. They are the perfect blend of sticky brown sugar/cinnamon filling with bread. Once you start eating one, it's hard to stop. I think that anyone who refuses one of these cinnamon rolls is out of his or her mind!
Sadly, some people treat the Lord this way by saying "no" to Him; when a relationship with the Lord Jesus is the most wonderful experience that we can enter.
It's true that eating cinnamon rolls has some adverse effects to our bodies, namely our waistline and our teeth, but with regards to the Lord Jesus, He has no adverse side effects to our body. In fact, unlike choosing to bite into a cinnamon roll, taking Jesus Christ into your life results in nothing but good.
The Lord Jesus changes a person from the inside out, in a miraculous way. He gives us brand new desires to live life differently than before; God's word describes us as being new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17)!
Another way of describing this total change is called being "born again," and can only happen when we choose to put our faith in the Savior of sinners (John 3:3). Nothing in this world can truly take away our shame, guilt, and fear, but the Lord Jesus does this and so much more!
The only requirement we must meet is that we change our minds about how we are living and be willing to turn away from our sinful life and turn to Jesus to give us new life! The Lord Jesus says, "Unless we repent, we will perish in our sins" (Luke 13:3).
We can join programs, but never truly find the healing that we need and end up easily returning to the bondage of sin. The Lord Jesus breaks the chains of sin and sets a person free because He defeated sin at the cross, after He suffered, died, and rose again.
The moment you recognize your need for cleansing and a new life, trust in the Lord's shed blood for you at the cross. He forgives the past, secures your future, and gives you power right now to live in harmony with God, yourself, and your fellow human.
We can't do this in our own strength. God's Word says that while we were yet without strength, the Lord Jesus Christ died for the ungodly (Romans 5:6). He took the judgment for every time we disobeyed God. He bore our sin in His own body on the cross, so that we could be made righteous in God's sight and walk His good path, according to His Word (1Peter 2:24).
This, my friend, is better than a lifetime of gooey cinnamon rolls! "Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the person who puts their trust in Him" (Psalm 34:8).
